We, as a NRMS STEM team, met on Wednesday, November 16th,
for our first official meeting, where our When was addressed. At 4:00, all math and science teachers,
Rashel Larson, our secondary digital learning specialist, as well as our team
of campus and district administrators. joined together in our library to learn
about the process of becoming STEM certified teachers as well as a STEM
certified campus.
Kicking off our meeting, we did an activity that mixed up
all of the science and math teachers, after all, collaboration between the two
content areas is vital to the successes along our learning journey! It was fun getting to actually talk with
science teachers, as our paths rarely cross throughout the school day. Learning each other’s definitions of what
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math offered insight as to who we would be
traveling together with on our journey.
A timeline was shared.
A timeline with lots of dates. A
timeline that began the Friday after Thanksgiving break and concluded at the
end of March. 14 weeks of intentional
learning; 14 weeks of growth. I was
excited but most importantly I was grateful for the time and thought our
administration had put into organizing our STEM certification
requirements.
Thought was put into the organization and choice was given
to us as to what worked best with our personal schedules. We were given 3 options on how we wanted to become
a STEM certified teacher. It was agreed upon that we would embark on this learning journey during our PLC time, each week. This will allow all of us the opportunity to collaborate and have meaningful conversations as learn about what it means to be a STEM teacher.
Knowing that our administration is following along on this
journey with us is huge! After all, a
learning community that fosters growth, includes learners and
facilitators. I couldn’t be more excited
to be a part of this learning community!
