Why Participate in Hour of Code?

Sunday, December 4, 2016
  • Supports the BISD Portrait of a Graduate by teaching computational thinking in order to develop skilled problem solvers.
  • Provides instruction that demystifies coding and programming.
  • Encourages students to be creators rather than consumers of technology.
  • Intentionally promotes opportunities for all learners to engage in computational thinking.

Did you know that the National Hour of Code is the week of December 5th?  Based on conversations during our goal setting conferences, students mentioned wanting to pursue a career in computer programming.  After all, what middle schooler isn't fascinated with technology!

If you're like me, you have no idea how to code.  No worries...BISD has put together a Smore that will walk us through the entire process! ( https://www.smore.com/1d8j7) Based on my previous experience with Hour of Code, even your most challenging student will be completely engaged.  One of the best parts about this day is that students are able to teach us how to do something!

Chromebooks have been reserved, while some students prefer to use their cell phone.  One of the best parts of coding is that you aren't limited to a particular device.

On Friday, December 9th, our 8th grade Falcons will participate in National Hour of Code, through their math classes.  This is a learning opportunity for both our students, as well as as our teachers!

Stay Tuned as our Falcons explore the world that awaits them outside of our 4 walls!
